Dry Needling

When we experience muscular soreness, tightness or tenderness, sometimes manual release (massage) may not be enough to provide relief. Fortunately, we can offer a technique called dry needling to release tightness.

Dry needling utilises acupuncture needles as targeted muscle segments to offer instant relief that has an extended effect compared to manual therapy. When used with other treatments and exercise prescriptions, muscle soreness, tightness and tenderness can be kept at bay.

Dry needling trigger point therapy has been around for decades, but it’s become an increasingly popular drug-free way to treat musculoskeletal pain.

It’s mostly used as part of a larger treatment plan that could include stretching, massage and other techniques as advised by your Remedial therapist to best serve you in muscle recovery and pain relief.

What can you treat with Dry Needling?

Dry needling is often part of a larger treatment plan that could include stretching, massage and other techniques as your Remedial therapist advises best to serve you in muscle recovery and pain relief. At Body for Life we commonly use dry needling to treat the following:

  • Back and neck pains
  • Elbow and wrist pains
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip and calf tightness
  • Jaw pain

What are the benefits of Dry Needling?

It’s a natural pain reliever that increases blood flow to affected areas, releases trigger points and initiates tissue repair.

What is involved in Dry Needling treatment?

Dry needling involves the insertion of tiny needles into muscles, ligaments, tendons, subcutaneous fascia and scar tissue. The focus is on stimulating specific trigger points to relieve pain and discomfort.

Who benefits from Dry Needling?

Your therapist will advise whether dry needling will be beneficial in any of your treatment plans to relieve recovery, mobility issues, or acute or chronic pain. Needling is an additional component of a therapy process to help clients improve their wellbeing and, therefore, will be assessed on an individual client basis.
